Dumbbell Floor Fly

Arm opening and closing movement that works the chest and shoulders through a controlled range of motion.

How to perform it

  1. Lie on the floor with your knees bent, feet supported, and a dumbbell in each hand.
  2. Keep your spine stable, abs engaged, and arms open to the sides with a slight bend in your elbows.
  3. Position the dumbbells at a comfortable width with your wrists firm and aligned.
  4. Begin by bringing your arms together in an arc until the dumbbells move toward the center of your chest.
  5. Keep your elbows slightly bent throughout the movement without turning it into a chest press.
  6. Bring the dumbbells close together at a comfortable distance without letting them strike each other at the top.
  7. On the return, lower slowly, opening your arms with control back to the starting position.
  8. Exhale as you raise the dumbbells and inhale as you lower.

What you should feel

Work in the chest, especially as the arms move together, with the shoulders assisting with stabilization. The effort should remain controlled through the chest and front shoulders, without pain in the shoulders, elbows, wrists, or lower back.
